Floyd County is located in the southwestern part of Virginia. It covers an area of 393 square miles and has a population of 15,279 as of the 2019 census. The county seat is Floyd. It was formed in 1831 from Franklin and Montgomery counties.

Floyd County is part of the Blacksburg–Christiansburg–Radford, VA Metropolitan Statistical Area.
