Haskell County is located in the north-central region of Texas. It is part of the Abilene, Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county seat is Haskell.

The county government is run by a three-member Commissioners Court, which consists of a County Judge and two Commissioners. The County Judge is the presiding officer of the court and is elected county-wide. The two Commissioners are elected by the voters in each of two precincts.

The county is served by the Haskell County Sheriff's Office, which is headed by Sheriff Tim Turner. The Haskell County Courthouse is located in the county seat of Haskell.
