Jasper County is located in the eastern part of Texas and is part of the Beaumont–Port Arthur Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county seat is Jasper.

The county is governed by a four-member Commissioners Court, with a county judge as its presiding officer. Other elected officials include a sheriff, district attorney, county clerk, county treasurer, and tax assessor-collector.

The county is home to the Sam Rayburn Reservoir, a large lake on the Angelina River. The lake is a popular destination for fishing, boating, and other recreational activities.
