Mecklenburg County is located in the Commonwealth of Virginia and is part of the Southside region of the state. The county seat is Boydton.

Mecklenburg County is governed by a five-member Board of Supervisors. The Board is responsible for the administration of the county government and oversees the county’s finances. The Board consists of a chairman, who is elected at-large, and four supervisors, each representing one of four magisterial districts.

The county is also served by a constitutional officer, the sheriff, and by a number of elected officials and department heads. The county is represented in the Virginia General Assembly by the 22nd District in the Senate and the 60th District in the House of Delegates.

Mecklenburg County is part of the Southside Economic Development District. The county is also part of the Southside Regional Library System.
