Montana law enforcement, criminal justice and other public agencies join forces when a child is reported missing in Montana. A prime example of this would be The Montana Missing Person Clearinghouse which works closely with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and other state clearinghouses to aid in locating children who have been unlawfully taken out of Montana or brought into Montana. The Montana Amber Alert Program is a law enforcement and media collaborative program capable of quickly distributing information about child abductions to the general public. While the Amber Alert Program is specifically restricted to child abduction cases in which the child's life may be in danger, Montana also offers a Missing and Endangered Person Advisory which is a modified alert program designed to assist law enforcement agencies in the range of situations that do not fall within the Amber alert criteria. The Montana Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force assists state and local law enforcement officials in educating, investigating, and prosecuting computer-facilitated child exploitation cases. The internet is a valuable resource in providing search databases, websites which offer lists, photos, and details of children currently missing in Montana, and safety tips for parents and children to help prevent abduction.
